Where’s the Scandal?

March 15, 2007

Being raised in a conservative household and working for several Republican candidates in the past, I have for the most part, supported them. I also follow many of the news stories surrounding both Republicans and Democrats. The buzz this week is all about the “scandal” surrounding Alberto Gonzales and the 8 attorneys who were fired.

Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh clearly thinks this isn’t a scandal. He believes the liberal left is just looking for blemishes in which to trash the Bush Administration. That’s not surprising either, it’s just another day in the life of a two party system that are polar opposites ideologically. To me the real scandal may be all the AWOL Republicans who refuse to defend Gonzales, Bush and the decisions they made. Rush Limbaugh said,

They’re [the Republicans] cowering in fear of the Drive-By Media. The problem with that is that you don’t have to defend the Bush administration in attacking this whole story as put out by the Drive-By Media. There’s nothing that says you can’t go on offense here. You don’t have to go out and defend Bush and defend Gonzales if you don’t want to, although it wouldn’t be a bad idea if they did. They view Bush as “he’s a goner” and anybody tied to him as a goner. Okay, fine. You don’t want to defend Bush. Well, go out and defend your party.

As someone who leans toward the Republican party, I have to ask myself if you don’t support your party, then why should I? You’ve got 18 months to convince me.

(Note: While I have grown up listening to Rush, I’m by no means a robotic dittohead.)
